Believe it or not eBay is not the only auction site on the Internet. While eBay was the first established auction site which was created in 1995 today it is just one of many places to bu things on line. There are a number of alternative auction web sites which work just like eBay but are smaller. Smaller alternative auction web sites have their advantages and disadvantages. While smaller sites have less visitors they also have less product. Less product means less competition for whatever you are selling. For example on eBay there is 50,000 sports collectibles being sold. If you are trying to sell your item on eBay you are going to have a great deal of competition and less profit.

Starting a Home Business Using the Internet

Starting a home business I not an easy task and to make things harder there are so many myths attached to starting a home business that it can become quite confusing. Some people get an idea in their head and just take off. Starting a home business for them is easy. The majority of people, however, end up having the desire to start a home business before the actual business idea comes to them. Once they begin thinking about actually starting a home business they are overcome with many myths that make it seem next to impossible to succeed.

One of the biggest myths about starting a home business is associated with the internet. The internet has opened many doors to home business owners, but at the same time the complexity of the internet has caused many to give up and abandon hope that they can ever get a home business to be successful. Many people believe that the internet is a vast marketplace that is too he to compete in. That is simply not true. There are many small home businesses that are doing great on the internet. It is all a matter of knowing how to run a business website. A person has to understand about marketing and setting up a website. Once they’ve established their online presence they can make great money.

Another internet related myth about starting a home business is that there is no help available for the business owner. Anyone who has went to a search engine and typed in ’home business’ will now this is not true. There are online networks of websites that are all aimed at helping people succeed in internet business. These people offer free information and plenty of support. A person can find answers to almost any question they have and even talk to others who have started their own business. The internet business environment is one of helping others.

One myth that may hold some truth is that marketing online is impossible. While it is, obviously, not impossible, it can be difficult for the beginner. Starting a home business online requires plenty of research into internet marketing. The marketing tools used online are very different from those used in the traditional environment. A person has to understand how to drive traffic to their website and how to catch the attention of their target market. As mentioned above, there are plenty of resources available to help a person get their marketing plan in order.

These myths about starting a home business all make it look impossible to tap into the internet marketplace. These myths are quite untrue and should be ignored. It does take hard work and dedication to start any business, but using the internet just opens up a business to a huge marketplace and offers additional opportunities that a traditional, offline business does not have. It is worth it for every business owner to look into the internet when starting a home business.

Succeeding in Home Business Without a Website

Many people think that having a home business means they need to set up a website. While a website helps, it is not always a necessity. There are plenty of opportunities that allow a person to run a home business without going through the work and expense of setting up a website. Websites are basically an online showroom or store where customers can browse through what the business offers. To actually get the business recognized a person has to do quite a bit of advertising just to get people to come to their website. So in reality the only home businesses that need a website are those who are selling products or multiple services that customers would need to look at and gather information about. Other home business ventures do not need a website as simple advertising can handle the job of getting the business name out there.

When a person starts a home business where they offer up a simple service a website is just not needed. In most cases advertising and email can handle all the needs of the business. A website requires additional money and some skills that a new home business owner may not have. There are hosting fees, fees for the domain name and then additional costs just to keep the website ‘live’ online. Setting up a website requires knowledge and know how about HTML and scripting and other technical skills. Many times a professional has to be hired so that the website functions properly and is easy for the customer to use. If a home business owner can get their business name out there and easily explain their service then they can easily get by without setting up a website.

Many home business owners wonder how they can possibly compete without a website. The first thing they should keep in mind is that a website is only good if people are visiting it. In order to even get people to visit a website there has to be quite a bit of marketing, search engine submissions and then constant monitoring to make sure the advertising and search engines are working. All of the time and energy put into just getting people to visit a website can be better spent on creating great advertising and actually talking with customers. Through the use of online ads, email and the telephone a business can easily compete with, if not excel past, the competition.

A home business owner should focus on creating ads that are informative and attention grabbing. They should work to place the ads on websites and in areas where their target market are most likely to see them. They then should track the ads and make sure they replace the ones that are not producing leads and keep up the ones that are doing a good job. Handling the business is a matter of answering emails and taking telephone calls. The reason this works so well is, unlike with a website, the business owner is getting personal contact with each and every customer. They can easily answer questions and assure the customer their business is the one to handle their needs.

In a world where it seems everything has gone high tech it is important for home business owners to take advantage of what the internet can offer, but not to become a slave to it. They can avoid the hassles of a website, by just using old fashion ways of business. They can handle each customer on a individual basis, either through email or on the phone. They do not have to avoid the internet, but use it wisely to build a home business that will succeed.

Three Big Misconceptions About Work at Home Opportunities

When it comes to work at home opportunities there are many misconceptions. Three of the biggest misconceptions have to do with the availability of jobs, amount of money to be made, and that work at home opportunities are easier than traditional jobs. With all the misleading information out there on the internet, television and in print there is no surprise many people believe the misconceptions to be the truth. However, anyone looking for a work at home opportunity should understand these three biggest misconceptions so they do not end up disappointed.

There are many people who go looking for work at home opportunities believing there are many to choose from. A typical search for work at home opportunities turns up pages and pages of results, but this is very misleading. There are plenty of work at home opportunities, but not nearly as many as one is led to believe. First of all, some work at home opportunities are simply scams, a way to cheat people out of time and money. Other work at home opportunities are not going to be something a person would desire doing and still others are opportunities where there is little money to be made. When it comes right down to the truth, the availability of good paying, legitimate work at home opportunities online is comparable to jobs in the traditional job market.

Everyone has seen ads saying there is millions of dollars that can be made easily in work at home opportunities and anyone can do it. This just isn’t true. If it was possible to make millions of dollars in online work at home opportunities without the need for special skills or lots of time and money then everyone would be doing it. Most of these statements come from companies that are not legitimate. Real work at home opportunities will not tell a person they can easily make large amounts of money. The truth is that in order to make lots of money a person has to spend a lot of time to do it. Just as in the traditional job market, a person will make money depending on their skills and the amount of time they spend working.

When it comes to work at home opportunities being easier than traditional jobs, well, that is not true either. As stated above, work at home opportunities are not an easy way to make money. They require just as much effort and work as a traditional job, if not more. Combine that with the fact that there are some things about working at home that can make it more difficult than a traditional job. For starters, when working at home it is easy to become distracted by others or television, or a number of other things that wouldn’t normally be a consideration in a traditional job. Children can also make working at home difficult. It is not easier to work at home than a traditional job.

However, there may be some truth behind these misconceptions because working at home can be easier on a person budget. Working at home can eliminate costs like babysitting and transportation expenses which make the income earned turn out to be more. It can also allow a person more flexibility in their schedule and let them spend more time with their friends and family. Work at home opportunities also allow a person to start their own business more easily. So in some ways a person can make more money, find a job easily and find that a work at home opportunity is easy than a traditional job.

Misconceptions surrounding work at home opportunities may have a little truth to them, but overall they are just false. The bottom line is that to make money a person has to work hard, be dedicated and be willing to take time to be successful. This is true of work at home opportunities and those in the traditional job market.

Working at Home with Children

Working at home has its good and bad side for parents. Trying to maintain working at home while keeping children occupied can sometimes seem impossible. The important thing fro any parent to do before working at home is to have some idea what they are going to do to keep their children from interrupting them while they are working. There are many things to consider when it comes to working at home with children.

Some work at home jobs will not be influenced very much by children but others will be impacted greatly. Jobs where a person is working on the telephone or otherwise talking with customers requires a quiet environment without interruptions. Other jobs like writing or data entry will not be influenced as much by the noise of children. Interruptions, though, no matter the type of job, will cause problems as a person will be unable to get their work finished in a timely manner if they are interrupted constantly.

One of the first things a person should do before working at home is to go over their schedule. They should determine what times they can work. It is best to look at when the children are quiet or otherwise occupied. Most families have routines where there are times of the day where the children are busy playing or doing other things and these are good times to work.

Once a person has decided they can balance working at home and their children they should begin to think about what they can do to ensure their children are quiet and entertained while they are working. The following list is some tips on things parents can do to make working at home with children easier:

- Plan activities outside the house. Activities can include camps, playgroups and even a part time babysitter.

- Have an activity center set up. An activity center can be something as simple as a large box with crayons, markers and paper. The idea of an activity center is to give a child something to do if they start getting restless and bored.

- Prepare before starting to work. This is one of the best ways to avoid distractions caused by children. Many times children simply just need something they can’t get themselves and that is why they are coming to their parent. It is a good idea to make sure children are fed and have something to drink before starting to work.

- Make it clear you are working. One great tip for people who work on the telephone is to have a hand signal to give children so if they come in while you are on the phone with a customer they know to wait a minute and be quite. Something as simple as a hand held to say ‘stop’ will keep a child from interrupting.

- Plan for problems between siblings before hand. Every family has dealt with sibling rivalry. The fighting and yelling that can ensue when mom or dad cannot stop the fight can be too loud and disruptive when a parent is trying to work. Many parents know what makes their children fight, so removing these triggers a parent can reduce the chance of fighting and create a calmer working environment.

Working at home with children is not always going to be easy, but many parent s choose working at home so they can be with their family more. It’s a double edged sword, but the benefits far out weigh the problems. All parents need to do is be prepared and ready for dealing with working at home and keeping children at bay.

Getting off the Internet and Onto the Phone for a Great Home Based Business

Often people are misled into thinking that they only way to have a home based business is to use the internet. That is far from the truth. Many people run a home based business without ever having to do anything online. These small home based business operations are using the telephone and local advertising to build a lucrative profit. The telephone is an often overlooked and underused business asset. Many times people get so wrapped into the internet and its many possibilities that they forget home based business has been around since long before the internet was a household name.

Using just a telephone and local advertising to start a home based business is not difficult and actually can prove more profitable than any online business. It is easier to target a customer base, easier to reach potential customers and costs much less than keeping a website up and running. Today there are many phone companies that offer great deals that include unlimited long distance which allows a person the ability to grow outside of their local area easily without much extra cost. Besides the telephone is a tool everyone knows how to use, so there is no learning how to do anything, unlike the internet where there is plenty for the novice user to learn before they can even start their home based business.

The biggest obstacle in a telephone home based business is knowing how to charge customers or clients, as they are referred to. It really depends on the business as to how to charge. Some charge a subscription fee where the client pays for a certain amount of time. Other charge based on a ‘per call’ fee which charges for the number of calls they make. These are the two basic ways of charging for telephone work and the choice will most likely be determined by the types of calls being made.

The type of home based business that would be most likely to use a subscription pricing plan would be where there are going to be regular blocks of times the business would be making calls for the client. When the business owner knows they will be calling for ’x’ number of hours for a client they can quote them a flat subscription fee. The type of home based business that would charge a ‘per call’ fee would be one where the calls are going to be made randomly or when the amount of time is unknown. In cases where the client has a list of numbers to call and just wants all the numbers called a ‘per call’ fee could be charged.

Using the telephone for business is definitely not a new idea. It is just one that has been forgotten or overlooked in the frenzy of the internet marketplace. Setting up a home based business that uses the telephone is a nice alternative to setting up a website and working only online. A telephone is easy to use, easy to set up and a great business tool

Evaluating Work at Hom Opportunities

Evaluating home business opportunities is an important step in the decision process that should not be overlooked. In fact, evaluating home business opportunities should take place before even looking at opportunities and then with each business opportunity a person is considering. The evaluation process before hand and after are both important and a person should evaluate any home business opportunity completely before making a final decision. Evaluating a home business opportunity ensures a person makes a good decision and goes a long way to helping ensure the business will be a success.

Before a person even starts looking into specific business opportunities they need to evaluate some aspects about themselves. Evaluating home business opportunities also requires a person makes sure the business opportunity is one they will like and can run successfully. The following list are things a person should evaluate before looking into specific business opportunities:

- What ultimate goals they have. This includes the financial goals and goals regarding growth. A person should know what they want ultimately from starting a home business so they can make sure the home business opportunity they chose will allow them to meet their goals.

- What skills they have. Skills are an important part of a home business. It takes skills in business, customer service and sales to make a home business work. A person should also make sure they have any special skills needed. If a person realizes they are lacking in some skills they should consider taking courses or studying to improve their skills.

- How much time they want to spend on the business. Some people do not want to work full time at their business in the beginning until it starts making a good profit. A person should know how much time they are willing to spend on the business so they can make an appropriate business choice.

- What is the budget. This is a big one. A person has to understand how much money they will need to buy into the business opportunity and then get it established. They should not overlook any expenses, even the small ones like paper and pens.

- What they want to sell. A person should have a good idea of what they would like to sell. Any sales person will say that in order to be good at selling you must be passionate about the product you are selling. This is why it is important for a person to know what they want to sell.

Now that a person has their personal goals and ideas evaluated it is time to start looking into specific business opportunities.

When evaluating home business opportunities a person needs to pay attention and take notes. They should ask questions and work to get as much information as they can. It is smart for a person to get legal and financial representation, so they can go to a professional with questions. The following list explains some of the things a person has got to know when evaluating home business opportunists:
- Look at the competition. This even means to talk to competitors. Competitors are likely to give information about the weaknesses of the company. This is also the time for a person to see how the business is different and better than the competition.

- Check the company’s background. This includes looking into the past financial records, looking at the management and researching the publics opinion of the company. All of this information will give a person a good idea how stabile the company is and if the business is likely to last a long time or fold in the next few years.

- Understand all the costs associated with start up. A person should get a complete run down of every expense they will incur during start up. They should understand what is included with the initial money they put down on the business and what extra things they will have to buy themselves.

Evaluating home business opportunities will take some time, but the effort will be well worth it. Most successful home business opportunities are the ones that people started after doing a good evaluation of the company and themselves.

Using the Internet to Find Business Opportunities

The internet has brought a wealth of information to the average persons fingertips. With a few clicks a person can gain knowledge on a wide array of topics. The internet has also given people a chance at business opportunities they would otherwise never have the chance to know about. Finding business opportunities online and then actually making these business opportunities work is not a simple process, but it is one that all most anybody can do.

The biggest hurdle in finding business opportunities online is scams. Scams are basically companies that are simply looking to take someone’s money and make them waste their time. In the ends scams almost never pay anything and a person ends up wasting precious time and money. Avoiding scams is a matter of doing research. Before a person seriously gets involved with business opportunities they should completely check them out. The first place to look is the Better Business Bureau. A person can look up the business name and find out if they have had any complaints against them. Too many complaints may signal an unwise business choice. Another great research tool is using search engines. A person can type the business name plus the words ‘scam’ or ‘rip off’. This will yield any results of reported problems others have had with the business. It is also wise for a person to become part of one on the many online websites dedicated to business opportunities and working at home. There is a lot of information and helpful people on these sites that can help a person when making a choice about business opportunities.

One of the great things about the internet and business opportunities is that a person can look into the opportunities without any pressure. Many times when a person is looking for a business opportunity they have to spend hours being talked to by some company representative regardless of if they really decide the opportunity is for them or not. With the internet a person can go to the company website and look over the business opportunities without ever having to talk to anyone unless they are truly interested. Many business opportunities in direct sales are widely available online and their websites explain he business opportunity in depth.

The internet is a great tool to use when looking for business opportunities. It allows a person to research the company and make sure it is a solid business. It allows a person to talk with others who work for the company and get real answers to their questions. The internet even allows a person to casually look or business opportunities without being haggled by representatives wanting a commission for signing them up. The internet is one tool anyone looking for business opportunities should not ignore.

Going Legit

There are a lot of less than legitimate home business marketers on the Internet and if someone is looking for a legitimate home business to start they must be wary. Here are some tips on how to not get swindled.

A franchise is one of the best ways to assure that what the entrepreneur starts is a legitimate home business. A franchise offers the franchisee immediate help with product training, equipment; sometimes help with choice of location, and marketing materials. Starting a home business by buying into a franchise will assure others that the new business owner is legitimate as well, as the right franchise will give instant credibility and brand recognition.

A franchise is one of the more costly ways of starting a legitimate home business, unfortunately, but the first way to start a legitimate home business from the success of others may very well be with a nationally known and respected franchise. While there are some serious drawbacks to this that the person wanting to go into a home business must look at closely, such as the cost to get started, the directions you'll have to follow from the franchise owner and so forth. On the plus side of this legitimate home business is the fact that this is a proven business and, with the right franchise, you have a protected territory.

If a budding home business owner doesn't want to buy into a franchise there are still ways to determine if what she or he is buying is a legitimate home business. She can check with local or Internet resources to determine how long the company has been in business and check with organizations such as the Better Business Bureau and Chambers of Commerce to see what the firm's reputation is. No one should ever buy a home business that has not been around for at least five years. Legitimacy is almost assured if one adheres to this five-year rule. Scams just don't last that long before complaints start rolling in, they start to be investigated and the scammers move on.

The very best way to ascertain if an offer is really for a legitimate home business is to see how forthcoming the current owner is with details - location, finance statements, clients and so forth.

Fortunate or Folly?

An entrepreneur can make a fortune online. Nothing is impossible. But if someone is out there telling that entrepreneur that following their program and paying their fee will make a fortune online, that budding millionaire should be very wary.

There are certainly legitimate online businesses that can make a fortune for the business owner. There are new ideas and new needs and desired cropping out every day with new technology vendors that can and often do make a fortune online. As much as these look like overnight wonders, however, they almost invariably happen after years of hard work, long hours, creativity, brainstorming, dedication, and a lot of financial and energy resources. The idea that someone can make a fortune online through someone else's get rich quick Internet scheme is ludicrous - and sometimes illegal.

The means that online get rich quick scheme predators use to lure in those who want to make a fortune online are hyperbolic guarantees, testimonials of others' rags to riches stories, what they call documented proof that really isn't and the potential for huge income in a very short time period. One of the more common phrases that attracts those that are not only looking to make a fortune online but are lazy and don't want to put in a whole lot of time or energy into this instant wealth is the phrase, "work part time hours, get paid for full time."

First, a person who is going to make a fortune online is a person who does her or his homework - putting in the long nights, perhaps the all nighters, who studies and researches and asks for expert help and, as the saying goes, "pays their dues." Someone who wants to work part time better look for a fast food career, because where a good idea or a con artist's scheme, that person is never going to make a fortune online.

One thing that's a very important point about making a fortune online, or even making a somewhat decent living online is that it succeeds because people look to the Internet for satisfaction now - not in ten minutes, not in ten hours, not in ten days. They want it and they want it now. That is what the Internet is about for the consumer. If a start up business isn't willing to instantly gratify, to offer an "always open" service, that business is doomed.
Yes, there is the chance that an entrepreneur can make a fortune online. If she or he works long and hard, has a great idea, pours lots of energy, enthusiasm, creativity and money into it. Making a fortune online is not a get rich quick scheme. It just won't happen.

Can we Talk? Now?

No matter what someone is selling, one of the most important rules for making money online is to instantly gratify that customer as much as possible. That's what the Internet is all about - instant gratification. We all get online expecting to find what we want right away. If we go to a site that offers to mail us something or asks us to fill out a feedback form to be mailed out the information, we're most likely to find another site that will just tell us what we want to know.

A budding entrepreneur should keep this in mind when she or he starts out trying to make money online.

There are a number of vendors who are very aware of this hard and fast rule for making money online and they've created products to help with that very task. Two types of software programs that are new and very hot, and offer the kind of instant contact consumers want are called live chat and click to call.

Yes, chat is not anything brand new. Folks have been chatting away for nearly a decade now, talking about sports and dates and sex and jobs and all sorts of personal issues. But they haven't been talking to that potential vendor that way, nor has a retailer been chatting with a potential consumer. Not until recently, that is. With a live chat vendor a retailer or other site can install a live chat option on its site and can invite that consumer to an immediate chat to get questions answered and avoid a long distance call.

With some sites the live chat might be available after office hours. Some newspapers and broadcast sites that offer retail or classified advertising are helping their own advertisers in their eagerness for making money online. What they do is let someone place a classified ad, for example, to sell a car, and the ad contains a live chat icon. What this means is that a consumer who is interested in buying this car could click on live chat to be connected with someone at the auto dealership or the home of the car owner and ask questions about the vehicle.

Click to call offers a similar function, except the instant contact is a phone conversation, from the computer by microphone and headset. Even more recently is an updated version of click to call that is ideal for making money online. Called performance aware marketing, it lets the vendor or merchant turn off the click to call option when they are closed. This way, no consumer ever makes a click to call without an answer.

Online Merchant Management

If a home business owner has products that can be easily bought online and shipped to the consumer's location it is crucial that she or he have a merchant account. A merchant account for home business allows the owner of that firm to accept payments online. Without it, the expectation for instant gratification of most online consumers will take them to the site of a competitor.

Getting a merchant account is not a definite for a home business, although poor credit doesn't have to mean that an entrepreneur won't be able to acquire one. It just might cost more. The type of business that a company is going to run as a home business is part of what indicates whether merchant accounts are a possibility. Some business types are considered high risk for the account.

Telemarketing outbound or inbound is high risk, as are businesses that are solely e-commerce. The travel industry is considered risky for merchant account vendors, as are online auction firms and those that require membership in a club.

Other things the financial or sales organizations that offer these merchant accounts are going to look at before opening an account for a home business are prior merchant accounts by the company or owner, length of time in business and credit history.

A home business entrepreneur who has been in business to assure merchant account vendors that the business is solvent, that the executives know their business, and that fraud prevention is practices, have a better chance of being okay for merchant accounts.

While it goes without saying that a high credit score is important, start up owners should also make the merchant account providers know that they are aware of any issues in that regard, as well as a high risk label for their firm and indicate their willingness to accommodate any special requirements or higher costs for their merchant accounts.

There are several features and services that should be compared when deciding on the right merchant account vendor for a home business. The first is the discount rate. Each institution charges its own predetermined per-transaction fee and that is what the decision maker must know before securing merchant accounts. Important as well is whether the fee is higher if a predetermined volume of transactions is not met within a specified time period.

Transaction fee is important as well. Along with percentage of transaction, most merchant accounts will charge their home business clients a flat transaction fee.

Equipment and installation costs should be compared. Vendors will charge for retailer's point of sale equipment and terminals, the printer and the other peripherals. They might also charge an installation fee.

Ponzi's Pyramid

Networking marketing home business is a legitimate opportunity to earn a good honest living without a lot of upfront overhead. Network marketing home business has its many detractors, however undeservedly, because of an Italian named Carlo Ponzi who created his Ponzi scheme.

Carlo Ponzi was born in 1882 in Parma Italy but moved to the U.S. in 1903. In Boston in 1919 he discovered a way to scam others and make money through his network marketing home business con game.

Ponzi was thinking about creating an export magazine and wrote to Spain. The reply to his letter contained an international coupon for a postal reply, which he was supposed to take to the post office and exchange for U.S. stamps. He'd then stamp the magazines to send them to Spain. When Ponzi realized that the postal coupon was bought in Spain for what amounted to one penny in the U.S. but brought him six cents at home he realized he could generate a 600 percent profit for himself in the process. The first thing he'd have to do is convert his money into the currency of any country with such favorable exchange rates and he could make this kind of profit on his investment. He told everyone that would listen that his net profit for this was over 400 percent.

The truth was that this network marketing home business venture didn't really work because the time and expense of postal service red tape and the currency transfer delays ate up all of his profits. He didn't tell anyone that side of it, however. He started his Security Exchange Company and promised investors that they would make a fifty percent profit in 90 days. Thousands of people gave him approximately $300 each. He was able to make this kind of money from so many people by successfully duping them into believing in the legitimacy of the profits for one simple reason - early investors actually made that kind of money. They were simply paid off by the money flowing in from the payments of later investors. A year later, Carlo Ponzi was worth millions.

It wasn't much later, though, that things started to come apart for Ponzi's networking marketing home business scheme. Law enforcement authorities began investigating and his scheme got some unwanted media attention as well.

Investors started asking for their money back and he paid back about 1000 would be profiteers, but the cost of returning the money bankrupted his network marketing home business.

40,000 people had given Carlo Ponzi $15 million in his networking marketing home business. The money he'd taken in should have bought 180 million postal coupons. Ponzi actually bought two.

Techie Tips

A new entrepreneur with a start up small business might not know where to start when looking for computer and technical advice. Here are some tips on how to get the technical and computer related help your small business needs.

The first thing a small business owner must know to get help is what help he or she needs. It's important to make a list of computer and other technical needs such as telecommunications. Note questions, and the tasks that need to be completed for which no one involved with the small business has the adequate expertise.

Of course, the best source of suggestions for computer help are the people the business owners knows and trusts - family members, business associates, friends and so forth. Networking in organizations like the local Chamber of Commerce and other business groups can be a good way to get recommendations as well. In fact, a small business owner just might find someone among the group's members that can lend a hand.

One decision that an entrepreneur would need to make right from the start involves big equipment items for the business such as computer systems, copy machines and so forth. The decision is whether to lease or buy. This is where comparison shopping and asking the advice of other business owners and managers is critical to a good decision. It may be that early on a small business can't afford the initial purchase outlay and would welcome the support of technical assistance and repair on demand.

Some small business owners, especially those middle aged or older, may feel totally inadequate to the task of buying, setting up or maintaining a computer system. It may seem frightening to turn over the running of an important piece of business hardware that they don't understand and it's a common conception that technical assistance is very costly. It may be, however, that computer help is the best bargain a small business owner is going to find. Hungry college students, or even high school students, who are born to the computer, need the money, need the experience and are good at it. A small business owner can offer them a little bit of money and a lot of experience - even college credits - in return for keeping the small business computer system up and running.

It's Fun of Your Business

Having fun with a small home business is the way to keep it satisfying and profitable for the owner. After all, folks who start a small home business do it for a variety of reasons but primarily because they believe they would enjoy a small home business more than they enjoy working for someone else.

A small home business takes a lot of work. At least at first the entrepreneur will almost undoubtedly put in many more hours than a job working for someone else would require. An important part of succeeding at a small home business, then, is to pace the work, keep it fun and avoid burn out.

There are a number of ways a small home business owner can do this.

Having fun is about knowing what is fun to the person involved. If golf is enjoyable perhaps a way to market the business and still have a good time, show clients a good time, make money and market the small home business - all at the same time - might be to hold a golf scramble. Find vendors to sponsor each hole, provide refreshments, and the prizes can be vendor donations. A great time outdoors, a great networking tool, and a reward for your loyal customers as well.

Another way of having fun with a free home based business is for the entrepreneur to complete the tasks she or most enjoys and delegate the others. While this isn't always possible when first starting out as a sole proprietor even then it might be that a spouse, or sibling or child could take on a task or two to take some of the drudgery off the owner once in awhile.

While all of us have to spend some of our lives with people we don't care for, a small home business owner does have the luxury of saying "I don't want your business." While this is a luxury no one wants to exercise a lot, an occasional decision that someone is just too much of a pain as a client is healthy for the entrepreneur's peace of minds.

Working from home growing a small business can cut you off from adult companionship, especially if you have no spouse or immediate family members in the home. Home based business owners have to make an effort to create a social schedule - joining clubs, participating in sports activities and so forth.

Another important small home business tip is the most obvious of all, but the least practiced - take regular vacations.

Business Blog Bounty

Blogging is the latest and one of the best Internet marketing ventures to come along in a long time. Of the estimated 50 million people who get on the Internet, 30 percent read blogs. In short, creating a blog is a great Internet marketing idea.

The first part of using this Internet marketing tool is to understand what a blog is. The word blog is a shortened version of what it means - Web log. It is a personal journal on the Web that is updated frequently and is written with the intent of public consumption. It might have personal stories, some centered on themes. Having a blog and writing in it can be a fun and exhilarating, and sometimes cathartic experience. Using it for a business can give the owner the opportunity to introduce her or himself to potential customers, to present herself as an expert in her field, and to network with others in like situations. A blog is also a very inexpensive Internet marketing concept as well. That's one of the biggest plusses to its use.

The primary reasons that blogging is a great Internet marketing strategy for a business are the geographic range of the marketing possibilities, the speed at which the business measure is delivered, the consumer awareness and loyalty it can and does create, the opportunity for honest feedback about the business from consumers, and the halo effect in the community.

The intriguing part of blogging as Internet marketing is the ease with which the message is delivered virally. If a business owner is talking on a blog about an idea or a new product, she or he may be talking to several hundred. However, those several hundred, because it's so easy to send out an e-mail talking about the business blog, as well as forwarding or copying and pasting the blog URL, might send that blog out into the Internet world, marketing its idea and its product launch to thousands of others, and it just can keep on multiplying exponentially.

Internet marketing, especially with blogs, is so quick to change that it's a simple matter for the owner to spread news quickly, or to even make corrections or respond to problems almost instantly. The opposite is true as well. Consumers who might not otherwise have taken the time to communicate with the business, can easily and anonymously pass along concerns and even business ideas. The immediacy of response is a great Internet marketing tool as satisfied customers and customers who get attention tell others and become repeat and loyal customers. Yes, blogging can be an easily installed, easily and pleasurably maintained and highly successful Internet marketing tool.

Profitable Party Animals

The home party business actually began way back in 1920, when outside sales people, predominantly male, sold aluminum cookware by throwing home parties. Home-sales parties originated in the 1920s when a primarily male sales force used them to introduce aluminum cookware. It became much more the forte of the females when Brownie Wise, a sales entrepreneur and single mom started showing her friends some great storage products made by Earl Tupper. She heard about the design awards of his plastic containers that burped but that also stayed unsold on retailers' shelves. She started her home party business with Tupper's wares.

By the 1980's, however, people were conjecturing that the home party business was dead. When online shopping came to the fore in the 90's it really looked like the home party business nay sayers were right.

They were wrong, however, primarily because in a world that is so high paced and so high tech and so lacking in human contact, a home party business brings the community back together and puts personal back into the purchase. The home party business is actually considered a vital part of direct sales with 18 consecutive years of sales growth. A party organized by a home business planner might well be organized around events such as housewarming, birthdays, bridal showers and so forth, encouraging attendance.

Many long time home party businesses are booming, such as Longaberger and its baskets, PartyLite and its candles and Tupperware and its kitchen products. Longaberger, for example, took in more than $900 million revenue in 2005. What's especially noteworthy about this, too, is that home party business, unlike a lot of other business, has a very high return on investment (ROI) simply because it's overhead is so low. It's typically worked out of the home, so there is no lease cost, little if any additional utility expenses, not usually any staff to pay and very little inventory must be purchased by the distributor. Most home party business is either a drop ship situation or the distributor purchases the products from the home office or warehouse with the money paid to her or him by the customer ordering it.

Home party business is clearly thriving - and an especially popular choice for stay at home moms.

Securing a Home Business

A home business security system is a hybrid of various security issues and options. The home business owner has to incorporate the standard security system she or he would for the home - with locks, lighting, and alarms, along with some natural crime deterrents such as prickly shrubs, lights and televisions that turn on when the owner is away, dogs or barking dog tapes and so forth. The owner of the home business also has to incorporate a security system for business equipment and documents as well, which means locking files, the door to the home office and keeping the computer's hard drive material safe from prying hackers as well as external keyboard entry.

Home equipment and hardware needs two different types of security - the security that keeps people that don't have the authority from getting into the home business computer system and files, as well as keeping robbers and burglars from walking away with the company laptop, PC, scanner, printer, digital camera and so forth.

One of the hardware and equipment safety options could be a clamp or lock that secures the equipment to a heavy piece of furniture or fixture that makes it nearly impossible to take it from the premises. These can be as simple as something similar to a bike lock or considerably more sophisticated and less able to be sawed through with a crowbar. While it's almost always true that a determined thief can break through any lock, it's also a fact that a burglar will generally only spend eight seconds trying to break into anything and after that will move on to some place and some thing that is easier to enter.

When it comes to protecting the files and proprietary information that is in the home business computer system there is a product that is referred to as the Lojac of computers. This system does for computers, especially laptops what Lojac does for the retrieval of a victim's stolen car. A program that is virtually undetectable alerts law enforcement the minute the home business computer system on the laptop is turned on. The police can tell the physical location of the computer and retrieve it. Some of the upgraded versions of this type of home business computer security system let the business owner wipe out any information from the computer's hard drive and other files if it should become necessary to keep important proprietary information out of the wrong hands.

Feature Article: Make the Leap to Home Business Success

Make the Leap to Home Business Success
Copyright © Stone Evans, The Home Biz Guy
http://www.PlugInProfitSite.com/main-0/freesetup.html

Before you can have a successful home based business, you must first possess 3 "intangibles." These are things that must come from WITHIN you.

 ===> Intangible 1 <===

First, you must have a strong WHY.

Why MUST you have a successful home business? What is driving you? What is it that you CAN'T have in your life anymore and/or what is it that you absolutely MUST HAVE now?

For me, I couldn't stand working 12+ hours a day anymore and missing the experience of my children growing up. I also absolutely HAD TO HAVE the freedom of being able to control my life and finances through a little box (laptop computer) that I could carry with me anywhere in the world and not be tied to anyone's time pressures or demands but my own. That was my carrot and my stick. I felt a great pain deep in my gut of missing out on my children's lives and the incredible freedom that succeeding in a home based business would provide for me. I found my why. You MUST find yours.

===> Intangible 2 <===

You must BELIEVE that it is possible.

If you don't believe that it's POSSIBLE for you to have a successful home based business or make your living from home, you won't. It's that simple.

For me, figuring out that it was possible was just a matter of realizing that many other people were ALREADY making great money working from home. If they could do it, I could too. It would just be a matter of figuring out what those people were doing and then adapting it to my situation.

There is no shortage of undeniable PROOF that people (millions of them) are making money working from home. Just get online and do some research and you'll find countless testimonials and stories of REAL PEOPLE making real money on the Internet. Or head to your local bookstore and you'll find the same documented evidence of this fact. Truth is, it's getting easier and easier to make money with your own home based business.

I've always said that "affiliate marketing" (a simple way to make money from home) is the job of the future. In the old days, you had to go to a potential employer, apply for the position and hope for the best. Now you can simply go to any company you want, fill out their affiliate application and start work immediately. Affiliates are the new working class. In fact, making money with affiliate programs or making your living on the Internet is WAY MORE than possible. It is pretty much (or will be soon enough) unavoidable now. Affiliate marketing is the "job" of the future that's already here TODAY.

===> Intangible 3 <===

You must be willing to MAKE THE LEAP.

Ready, FIRE, then aim... This is the operating philosophy you MUST adopt to succeed with a home based business.

That's backwards for most people who like to aim before they fire. The fact is that home based business success is a moving target... The only thing constant about it is change. You need to stop analyzing the game and simply jump into it. You can't learn from the outside... You have to be *IN THE RING* to truly understand and profit from it. In fact, this is a business where you can truly be earning WHILE you're still learning...

The lesson here is that you will never really be READY to start a home based business. You simply have to start one. It's like having children... You're never really ready, but when it happens you adapt and grow and therefore you succeed. This is what I call: "Making the Leap"!

The good news is that the cost of failure with having your own home based business is very small. In the "brick and mortar" world you need to evaluate things very carefully before you decide to open up a business. It's almost always necessary to invest thousands of dollars to get an offline business off the ground. However, on the Internet you can often start a successful business for less than $100. The Plug-In Profit Site is a great example of this where you can get your own money-making site setup free within 24 hours:
http://www.PlugInProfitSite.com/main-0/freesetup.html

You simply need get IN THE GAME... Each moment that you stay "out there," you're wasting valuable time that you could be learning and skills necessary to build a successful home based business. In fact, if you're not in the game yet, you're ALREADY behind the times... Make the leap to starting and building a successful home business TODAY!
