MLM Business Opportunity 101

An MLM business opportunity, which stands for multi-level marketing, is sometimes referred to as direct marketing or network marketing.

A typical MLM business opportunity arranges an entrepreneur as a subsidiary of a parent MLM firm. Each entrepreneur, often called a distributor, can act either as an independent contractor or as an MLM franchisee. Each distributor in this MLM business opportunity is compensated partially on the quantity and dollar amount of the products or services sold.

This common commission program seems like a typical outside sales venture. But where it’s not is that this isn’t the sole means and method of compensation. The multi level marketing business is different in that it offers a second method, sometimes the primary method, of compensation to its distributors. MLM business opportunity contractors are rewarded for each new contractor they bring into the firm. This isn’t a one time referral bonus. No, it’s an ongoing commission plan based on a percentage of the sales of each of these distributors.

The distributors that each contractor brings in are part of her or his downline, and when each of them bring in yet more distributors the originating distributors is again compensated, to at least the third generation.

In legitimate MLM business opportunity structures the distributors earn commissions based on their sale of the products or services of the company, or the product sales of those in their downline. No legitimate MLM pays anyone for adding to their downline. This isn’t a matter of MLM business opportunity ethics or standards – it’s a matter of law. MLM business opportunity vendors work under strict guidelines set by the U.S. federal government. If they reward their distributors for the act of bringing other distributors into their MLM fold, they are breaking the law. Those that compensate their contractors this way, often have no product or service to sell. The first few contractors are simply living off the proceeds raised by the fees their downline members pay to join the MLM business opportunity. These unlawful multi level marketing schemes are called pyramid schemes, or Ponzi schemes. The latter name is derived from the name of the man that invented the scam.

The primary problem with these less than legitimate MLM business opportunity scams is that they feed off the financial bones of those who can least afford to lose money – job seekers. If everyone who entered the pyramid scheme had an opportunity to make good money by adding to their downline with or without products to sell at least the return would be acceptable for all. But the major problem is that those on the downline pay too high a fee for too little return – if any return at all – and the only ones getting rich are the folks at the top. Some have products or services that are shoddy and not able to be resold.

MLM business opportunities have gotten a bad reputation because of these Ponzi schemes, although there are several legitimate multi level marketing firms and products that could offer a profitable entrepreneurship. If you are looking for an MLM business opportunity you must be caution, check references and reputation, and ask plenty of pointed questions.

The level of success that you will achieve greatly depends on the time and effort you are willing to plow into your new home business. Your organization, planning and marketing skills, will all be put into practice when you embark on your liberating journey from employee, to being your own boss. In fact, you will be the wearer of many hats and gain a wealth of business experience along the way, when you finally make that commitment to work at home.

When you`re the boss, you are responsible for the success of your home business, from A to Z, from disappointments to victory.

When you work at home, it will empower you to achieve many things you were unable to do when you were stuck working for that tyrant boss. Remember him? He`s the guy that wouldn`t let you take time off when your baby was sick...the same guy that called you in to work on a public holiday.

A home business means that you can take good care of your family and make money from home, simultaneously. You will have the best of both worlds! Just think--no more dirty laundry piling up--you can do it while you work. No more scurrying around at the last minute searching for a babysitter either. And no more worrying about getting fired; you`ll be the boss!

IN CONCLUSION...

Stay positive and focused on your home based business, even if, when sales aren`t up to par, you get occasional negative remarks or derogatory comments from people with stuffy, dead-end jobs. Ignore their cutting words and bear in mind that success is the best revenge! Keep your admirable, positive attitude at the forefront and show them what you`re made of!
