Time...there's just never enough of it. I sometimes work 14 hour days and still don't get everything done. Yes, time is critical when it comes to marketing. Unless you have automated advertising sources, like Adwords, most of your promotions are going to take a fair amount of time to put together. But the cutting edge of time that I'm talking about in this article is not so much the advertising method you use and how much time it takes, but the advertising method you use and WHEN to use it. Yes, timing is everything. Okay, so what am I talking about? Well, the best way to explain it is with an example. One day, I was browsing through my email box and noticed a new promotion for a brand new product. It was hot off the shelf. I read the email, researched the product and realized that this particular product was indeed special. I knew I had to begin promoting it. I also realized that I had to jump on this quickly because pretty soon, everybody and their grandmother would be promoting it. So I developed a game plan for promoting this product, one that would have me up and running in a day. See, when you're dealing with time sensitive material, you can't waste time. So the last thing you want to do is set up an ad campaign that is going to take days to bring you traffic. You have to get out there and start spreading the word using mediums where your ad can be seen on the spot. YouTube is a great example of this. Create a quick video, upload it and you're done and there. A Squidoo lens is another great way. Create the ad, create the lens and in seconds prospects are seeing it just from browsing through the Squidoo site. This is just one aspect of being on the cutting edge of time. The key aspect is actually looking out for new things. The Internet moves at the speed of light. Years ago, when news hit, you'd first see it on the TV. Today, in many cases, you will see breaking news on the Internet fast. That's how up to the minute it is, especially with services like AOL news, for you AOL users. I sometimes see news stories way before they hit the TV and certainly before they hit the newspapers. Did you consider MLM training before you dove into your new Network Marketing Business? Training is absolutely essential to your MLM success. Assuming you have no knowledge of electricity, would you decide to wire your brand new 3700 square foot home yourself? How about surgery? Would you sit at the kitchen table with a steak knife and just get instructions from your surgeon over the phone on how to perform your own surgery? I doubt it. Those first few years, the training I received was focused mostly on product knowledge, which you do need to a certain extent. Basically they had no other marketing suggestions except to call my 50 friends and family again and again, sit in the mall and cold call. They never considered my family and friends might not be my target market. I had no duplicable system to follow. My up-line's personality allowed for 99 "no's" to get that one "yes". My personality does not. I needed a duplicable system. Cold calling in the mall, calling family and friends over and over is not a duplicable system. The rest of the MLM training I received was related more to "how to give a presentation" and "sell the prospect". Network Marketing is not about "selling" the prospect on your "deal". Network Marketing is a teaching and mentoring business built on building relationships with others and truly trying to help others meet a need. Helping others meet their needs and goals will help you to meet yours as well! The Golden Rule is quite applicable: "Treat others as you would have them treat you." MLM training should be as individual as it is essential to the success of the distributor. Each person comes to the MLM industry with different needs, MLM goals and skills. It is the dream that many people have - to be their own boss. I bet that is your dream too. Multi-level marketing is more like a franchise arrangement where the sale of the product depends on the combined effort of each franchise and regional manager. There are multiple levels of people receiving commission. Usually there are seven or more levels. Multilevel marketing is basically a combination of franchise and direct marketing. This concept started in the 1980s when most of the companies started handling the stocking and distribution issues and started compensating all the individuals involved. This increased the interest of each member in promoting sales due to the chance of earning bonuses. Since then, the Multilevel Marketing companies have taken the responsibility of taking orders, shipping goods, and paying revenue. Things became easier with the transition to the Internet. Product promotion, advertising and sales were made online and hence, the whole process began to be known as online MLM. There are various MLM compensations plans. According to the uni-level or stairway breakaway plans there are two types of distributors involved, managers and non-managers. According to the matrix plans, the width of each level in a distributor's group is regulated. In binary plans, the limit of each level's width has two legs. Commission was paid when both the legs reached a specific target. In an elevator scheme, the distributors pay a percentage after a certain number of units have been paid. The commissions are paid in two ways, the first says that the commission is paid only if the product is sold and the second type involves paying commission even if the customer just signed-up, it doesn't require the customer to buy anything. Because of the second method illegitimate MLM or illegal pyramid started to arise. The intermediate members used to make proxy customer sign-ups to receive commission and they used to tempt the participant to buy more products than they can sell. But as most of these businesses present themselves as legal entities, precautions must be taken. It is better to approach businesses that follow the first method of commission, where it's compulsory to make a sale and not just recruiting a customer. Here, money isn't paid for a customer to sign-up at all. MLM marketing is being practiced all over the United States and in hundreds of other countries. In 1979, the Amway Corporation was accused of price fixing. They exaggerated sales claims, while their distributors sold the products at a minimum price. After that, FTC warned all multi-level companies whose commission was based on recruiting and not sales. In 2006, all the business sellers including MLM organizations were asked to provide customers with thorough information, according to the Business Opportunity Rule introduced by the Federal Trade Commission, so as to save them from deception. Before that many motivating programs were started which hid the truth. Such programs were known as cult programs. Laws have been made stronger. As a measure, pyramid scheme is banned in most of the countries. All the newly hired salespeople have to bare the cost of initial training and material. They even have to buy a big amount of inventory. To test the legality of MLM marketing, the 70% rule is being implemented. The members are stopped from over-loading so as to increase their commission. Only when seventy percent of the inventory is sold, order can be made for new material.

By Matthew Glenn In the home based business arena there are two things that we must be mindful of. These are over working and under working. Is over working possible? I'm not talking about meeting deadlines and putting in a few extra hours to add the finishing touches. The over working I refer to is non-productive hours spent without an objective. We've all been there. Working away for hours and at the end of the day when we look back on our efforts we realized how little we actually accomplished. Under working can be a problem as well. This is described by not giving enough attention to areas of our business that could stand some improvement. We will look at over working and how a daily plan along with organization will make for a great work from home experience and include family as well. Daily Goals and Objectives We all know the importance of goals and goal setting, but most of us set goals for our business or for certain aspect of our business. How many of us set goals for the day? Goals that when they are complete we actually feel that we have done something substantial. Many call this a To Do list. What should this list consist of? Well, if you are just starting your business, it should list out the setup processes that need to be done. Examples are setting up bank accounts, email accounts, getting your business plan together, products, and setting up your website. If all of these are completed you are now focused in on advertising and marketing. Once your objectives for marketing have been set, your focus should be on there effectiveness. Set out time everyday to gauge the effects of your marketing and advertising campaigns. Make sure you set aside time every day for your Research and Development (R&D). This helps to open your business to new avenues. Are You Organized? A larger part of home based business is organization. Making all aspects of your business work together makes for an environment of peace versus chaos. Work out a filing system that works for you. If most of your transactions are on line, make folders in your email account that relate to subjects such as business expenses, business bills, write-offs, etc. This helps immensely when you need to find something quickly. Physical folders can be made also if your business deals more with order forms. A file cabinet comes in handy. Have a spreadsheet with a running tally of your expenses, bills, etc. You will thank yourself at tax time! Family Time When we are so focused on our task and objectives we sometimes forget why we chose a home based business in the first place. For some activities, its best that you have quiet; but with other activities, a little interaction won't hurt. Figure out what those tasks are and allow that interaction. Also have set times during your day when it's family time. This may be during dinner and an hour or two after that. If your children are school age, what would be better than doing your non attention grabbing task while they are doing there home work. This not only helps with bonding but will also teach your children a lesson in time management. There really isn't enough space to expand all of these concepts so your imagination will have to fill in the space for your business. However, you can see that with a few adjustments to your home based business you can create an environment in the home that balances your objectives, keeps you organized and allows for family time as well. There are quite a numbers of affiliates to choose from if you are looking for one to join in the web. There several types of affiliate companies and I will break it down into factors that differentiate these types of companies. • Legitimacy • Services or products offered • Online or/and offline • Training offered • Turnarounds • Size of members/affiliates • Initial price to join • Compensation plan Just let me briefly explain about these factors. Legitimate companies are companies that are registered with the national business registry of that country the company belongs to. No one will ever choose an illegitimate company to join as you will be considered a criminal too! Some companies offer services like life coaching, rehabilitations program, networking programs, link exchange programs and so on. But most of the affiliate companies sell products like softwares, ebooks, consumer products, holidays, properties and so on. Some companies do not have online affiliations and they are considered the traditional types and online companies are currently the majorities as internet access is so available now. Fear is an interesting emotion. It is one that is based purely on the perceptions within one's own mind and can often be paralyzing. Have you felt paralyzed in your MLM business? Unable to make those follow up calls or you clam up when you talk to someone about your business? Seemingly stuck in some sort of rut? Well, you might be suffering from a bout of fear. Wikipedia defines fear as an emotional response to impending danger, that is tied to anxiety. They go on to say the following: Fear is a powerful, unpleasant feeling of risk or danger, either real or imagined. Fear can also affect the subconscious and unconscious mind. What does that mean and how does it relate to MLM fears? In a nutshell, it means that we create our own fears as a result of anxiety. But that the emotion is so powerful that it affects our thought patterns without us even realizing it. It is the reason why it is easier to work on organizing your business instead of contacting leads to build it. How do I know? I have been there. The first step is admitting you have a problem. You can also say positive affirmations morning and night to help your brain make the connection that you can do this. Let's explore a simple, but widely misunderstood philosophy and business model:
First of all, let me define what a marketing/prospecting funnel is.
Picture a funnel (wide at the top, narrow at the bottom). A prospecting or marketing funnel starts at the top - where prospects first come into contact with you. It's wide at the top and you should be attracting people to the top of your funnel using various forms or marketing.
Now, hopefully you know by now that your job is NOT to prospect. It's to MARKET, getting your stuff and information out to the public view in various ways and attracting quality prospects to YOU. If you are still trying to build your business prospecting people, cold calling, doing meetings, parties, friends and family, etc. - you need to read some of my older articles to get caught up with effective business building in today's market.
If you have passed that stage and are now on to more effective business building - listen closely because I'm about to share something with you that you most likely have never heard or have been shown before. Most people place their primary network marketing business at the top of their funnel, and it is the first thing that their prospects see. Doing it this way gives you absolutely nothing else to offer or show your prospect if he/she decides not to get signed up in your company. That's it, you're done and that prospect no longer has a use for you.
Not only that, but since your first contact with your prospects is simply a pitch for your mlm deal, they see you as just another networker salesman who wants to get them sign up in some company - nothing more. AND, if you are promoting your company first by trying to 'tell the story' or 'show the plan', you essentially are making yourself a non-important part of the picture. See, if that prospect truly wanted to sign up with or buy products from your company from the beginning - they would just call the 800 line and ask for a rep close to them. Why would they need you? What makes you any different than any other rep in your company?
See, anyone can 'follow the plan' and be a good little sheep and a clone of the company, but to be a true leader and a 'big dog' you need to be unique and give people a reason why they would even spend time with you if they can locate a rep right down the street from them.
Ok, back to the funnel!
So, if all you have in your funnel is some network marketing company that 10,000 other reps have as well - how is that really a unique advantage for YOU. and what can you offer prospects that anyone else in your company can't?
Solution?!:
First of all, you need to offer more in your funnel than other networkers do.
Secondly, and very critical here - you need to have those things in your funnel in the PROPER order. If you have more to offer your prospects, they see you as a viable resource and not a salesman. Plus, it gives you a very distinct advantage over the rest of the distributors in your company AND the entire industry. It makes you unique, and it gives prospects a reason to do business with you as opposed to any other rep from 'XYZ Company'.
BUT, if what you have to offer is not in the correct order - it can backfire on you.
So; you don't have your primary mlm business at the top of the funnel and then other stuff after that. People will feel like you are just trying to make a buck off of them and they already signed up in your company, so they feel like you may be taking advantage of them.
What you do first, is you place high-quality free or nearly-free things at the top of your funnel to ATTRACT people to YOU first. Things like a free newsletter, free educational articles, blog entries, free reports, free ebooks, free cd's, free videos, etc. Something that has a real value to your prospects, but doesn't make them commit to buying anything yet.
Then, they can suck on that stuff and digest it as long as they want while they are now in YOUR funnel looking around and coming back to you for more (because they liked what you provided so far, and they are starting to develop trust in you).
After this, you place low-to-medium priced generic training materials, tools, resources, etc. below the free things in your funnel for your prospects. This will continue to provide your prospects with things that they are already looking for and need while furthering the trust factor for you AND allowing you to earn an UPFRONT retail profit BEFORE you spend any personal time with a prospect or whether or not they end up signing up in your residual deal (So, you still get paid). I personally use a few things that allow people to start small and then 'upgrade' when they are ready, as well as some high-ticket items that those who are serious that will take advantage of.
Then, your bigger residual program(s) is/are plugged in to the BOTTOM of the funnel, and you are then able to build it more passively than ever before. The goal here is to passively transition retail customers into a month;y autoship that somehow relates to what they have already bought from you. Since residual income is residual income - I recommend having a few GENERIC residual deals in your funnel so your market expands to the ENTIRE INDUSTRY, and not just to those in a particular segment like nutritional products, skin care, or whatever.
Remember, the goal is to brand YOU, not your company. What happens if your company goes under or makes a bad business decision, or gets raided by the FDA or the FTC? Are your people connected to you or to some company? For example, go type in 'Scott Rogers Network Marketing' in Google and see how much stuff I have out there - and then replace my name with your name, and then replace your name with your sponsors name. This will tell you how well you are marketing and branding yourself, AND how well the people you are following are marketing and branding themselves.
In conclusion, if you position your funnel in the manner which I have displayed - not only will you be very uniquely different, but you will make more money upfront to help you go full time quicker while your residuals build up, AND you will be able to more passively recruit business builders in your primary business, AND you will be able to help your organization to do the same thing and get them into profit mode quicker!

I believe the internet to be the goldmine and the ways to market any generic MLM as the shovel. Keeping that in mind, you would not use a flat shovel to dig a hole or a round shovel for scraping dirt off concrete. The correct tool is essential to success. Which one to use? How about which ones to use? This is a better question by far. Choose the processes that are going to be enjoyable to you. Then consider the time you have available, the amount of financial investment, and the talents you have to market your generic MLM opportunity. This quickest way to begin marketing generic MLM business opportunities is posting ads on the free Internet based ad sites. The shear quantity of free advertising sites on the net gives confirmation that they are working for somebody. To make them work for you and your business, you will need to spend some time and thought on the ad content and subject line. The magic of advertising is timing. The very same ad could be posted in the fall and the spring but have better results in the spring.Write up about ten different ads and around twenty unique subject lines to rotate between the sites. There are several kinds of free ad sites available to market your generic MLM opportunity. There are manual traffic exchange sites, ad trading sites, and stationary ad sites. The manual traffic exchanges are brilliant. After you sign up as a free member, you start surfing on the site, viewing other ads and gaining points. The points are yours to use for posting ads of your own and allowing others to click and view your sites. Earning these credits keeps your ads up and running. Decide by using the free service until you get comfortable there. Familiarity is essential for real traffic. Getting creative and reading everything you have time for is my second generic MLM way to market. I am not recommending that you "do" everything you read, but gaining this knowledge will trigger creativity in your ads and marketing capabilities. Capturing leads of your own is such a necessary future step that everyone has had this thought cross their minds more than once. This is the answer for most generic MLM marketers. It is also one of the more advanced steps for a great business owner. I am going to save this one for another article, as it will consume an entire essay, but always keep it at the top of your list to spend time learning. Purchasing leads to gain visitors or buyers to your site is a must until you grasp the free or inexpensive generic MLM marketing ideas. But where to get these leads? The better companies supply lead packages to their members. Be very discerning when you venture out to search on your own for purchased leads. Always check with your upline's upline and ask, inquire, and then question some more. Coop's with upline are also a fantastic idea. Banner ads are an overlooked by many, used by few, free or inexpensive generic MLM marketing tool. Again, they are supplied to the members by the better companies and are as easy to use as knowing how to cut and paste. There are trade banner ad sites out there that will let you submit your banner if you will place a company banner on your site as payment. You advertise for others in categories of your choosing, and in turn, others will show your ad banner on their site. This takes little time and no money. A classic no brainer. Once it is up, it is up. No more time, effort, or worry and you have an ad showing to the masses. Banner ads can be used on free ad sites, ezines, really any web site that uses others ads as a way to help fund their site. Placing banners runs from free to rather expensive. Check around, but this is an extra way to get your ad viewed by many. Safe lists and solo ad mailers are a lucrative generic MLM marketing tool. Learning about how these work and which ones to use requires time as does using them. You will need some basic HTML knowledge as well. This too, is a topic that would insist on being the headliner, not just an add on. Web site personal domain URL redirects are THE most important of all. Without at least one, you will not get far with any of the other listed generic MLM ways to market. Without one, you are a fish out of water. With sites like GoDaddy out there to help you every step of the way, all that is left for you to do is think of a clever site name, how catchy is Google and Yahoo? Again, how many words are there available to you in this wonderfully brilliant English language? They have NOT ALL been taken and you can come up with a great one. Try hard to be able to find one that you could mention in passing, that won't readily be misspelled, that you could put a sign on your car and everyone must remember it. Take it one step further and make it fit your business, the area you want to market in, or ask a question with it. After you discover a unique site name, make it your own. Get an email address to match, use it (without the dot com) as your username everywhere because people get curious and will see if it is not your domain name as well as your email address. Get a dot com if you can. Then put it everywhere. Better yet, send the redirect to a free page swirl web site rotator. Add any of your sites that can be advertised with a common ad and get more bang for your buck by rotating many sites with one incredible URL and generic MLM ad. Word of mouth advertising is underrated these days. I remember a commercial that they told two friends and so on. That still works today but even faster in this age of technology. Take this scenario, If you get told by your neighbor that you look nice today, you feel good. But if that same neighbor tells you that Mr. B down the street told her that you looked nice today, you feel great. How about this?
